FR. FRANCIS McENNIS was born in 1916 at Kilconly, Tuam, County Galway, Ireland. He died on November 12, 1997 in a Manila hospital. Frank entered the seminary in Dalgan, Ireland in 1935 and was ordained priest there on December 21, 1941. Due to wartime travel restrictions he volunteered as a chaplain to the Royal Air Force and was the first Catholic chaplain to land in France with the British Forces on D-Day.

Fr. SEAN HOLLOWAY was born in Horseleap, County Offaly, Ireland, on August 25, 1921. He came to Dalgan in 1941 and was ordained on December 21, 1947. Assigned to the Philippines, after two years in Mindanao he was in the first group to go to Negros Occidental, a huge district. Fr. Seán spent eighteen years in Isabela and Himamaylan.

A TIME IN HISTORY (OCTOBER 4th Week)

FR. WILLIAM “Billy” BOURKE was born in 1929 at Providence, Rhode Island (RI), U.S.A. He died in Kent Hospital, Warwick, RI, on October 24, 2004. Prior to coming to St. Columban’s, Bristol, U.S.A in 1947 he had studied at St. Columban’s, Silver Creek. In 1950 he was sent as one of four exchange-students to Dalgan, Ireland and was ordained at Boston in 1954. Assigned to the Philippines in 1955, Fr. Billy served in Ozamiz where he was Chancellor of the Archdiocese from 1988 until his death. He was a genuinely welcoming host to all visitors in his parish, the Archdiocesan Offices and in the central house in Ozamiz, where was house manager. He was known among Columbans as a passionate lover of sports and among the people for his kindness and generosity. He is buried at Pawtucket, Rhode Island, U.S.A.

FR. PATRICK KEENAN was born at Grovehill, Castledawson, County Derry, Ireland, in 1921. He died on October 16, 1955 at St. Columb’s Hospital, Derry. Having completed his secondary studies at St. Columb’s College, Derry, Fr. Pat came to Dalgan, Ireland, in 1941 and was ordained priest there in 1947.

FR. EAMONN GILL died tragically on October 9, 2000 in Ormond Beach, Florida, U.S.A. where he was on temporary supply in St. Brendan’s Parish. Born in 1923 at Kilmeena Hill, Westport, County Mayo, Ireland he studied at St. Jarlath’s College, Tuam, before entering Dalgan in 1943 where he was ordained in December 1949.
