An Irish Blessing

Many Americans are Irish immigrants. On the 17th of March Irish-Americans celebrated St. Patrick’s Day by: men drinking a good ale together, wearing green clothes, wearing a shamrock Pendant or on their sleeve a big shamrock, dancing an Irish jig, walking in a parade dressed in green with bagpipes playing.

An Irish Blessing

May the road rise to meet you.

May the wind be always at your back.

May the sunshine warm your face,

the rain fall soft upon your fields.

And until we meet again,

May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

The 3 leaf clover, called shamrock, was used by St. Patrick to teach the mystery of the Trinity to the Irish people. He converted Ireland to Christianity. The Irish flag is shown behind the shamrock

Ireland is called the Emerald Isle because its landscape is always  bright green (called Kelly Green) meadows of grass. If an Irishman goes walking, and he finds a four-leaf clover this is a promise of GOOD LUCK!

Good Luck Clover- 4 leaves not 3.

One of the most famous prayers of St. Patrick is the: Breastplate of

St. Patrick. If you click on this icon to the left, it will play the Song:

Breastplate is taken from the Album In the Quiet by Liam Lawton; it is

sung with Irish music and by an Irishman.

 Liam Lawton - Breastplate

Christ be with me, Christ about me,

Christ beside me as I go.

Christ be before me, Christ around me,

Christ within, above, below.

Christ encircle now my heart,

Christ encircle every part.

Christ be with me,

Christ surround me,

Christ be near and never far.

Christ to guide me on my journey,

Christ to shield me from the night,

Christ to lead me on each journey,

Christ my hope, my light, my life.

Christ to save me from all sin.

Christ to call me deep within,

Christ to guide me on my journey,

Christ my heart to ever fill.

Christ be with me in my calling,

Christ can turn the tale of me.

Christ within each heart abiding,

Christ in every life I’ve seized.

Christ to be my fond protector,

Christ to shield me from all strife.

Christ be in my heart forever,

Christ my way, my hope, my life.
